Safeguarding at ELT
Enlighten Learning Trust and its schools take seriously their responsibilities under section 175 of the Education Act 2002 to safeguard and promote the welfare of children; and to work together with other agencies to ensure adequate arrangements within our schools to identify, assess and support those children and young people who are suffering harm.
As part of our approach to ensuring that strong, effective governance is in place, we have a named Safeguarding Lead for the Trust; Mr Anthony Marsh and a named Trustee with responsibility for Safeguarding: Mr Hugh Betterton.
We are regulated by the DfE's statutory guidance Keeping Children Safe in Education 2022, which you can read here as well as inter-agency Government guidance on Working Together to Safeguard Children, which you can read here. We also take guidance from the local authority safeguarding teams on which you can find more information on their website Surrey Safeguarding Children Partnership.
How do we assure safeguarding is robust across the Trust?
Our named Trust Safeguarding Lead works to ensure that Local Governing Body link governors for safeguarding are working effectively with each of our academies’ Designated Safeguarding Lead. This ensures all of our children and young people are safeguarded against harm and abuse, and that where concerns arise these are dealt with swiftly and professionally.
Annually, the Trust Safeguarding Lead will summarise all the assurance activity undertaken in the preceding year, and determine if they feel suitably assured of the controls in place across the MAT. This annual document will be uploaded here towards the end of the Summer Term each year.
